Taking on Social Media Responsibly: Twitter Leads

While the school filters out Twitter and Facebook, you will find outside of school that these media are prevalent in commerce and news.  Today, I would like you to create five Twitter leads of 140 characters or less that share major news stories actually happening in the world.

  • Find interesting stories on major news sites that would appeal to an audience of teens or family members.
  • Remembering the five Ws (who, what, when, where, why) and the H (how), create a tweet for each find.  Share your tweet creations by adding them to this post via comments.

Who’s Your Favorite Rocker?

Are you a Guns ‘n Roses fan? Well, you would be glad to know they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this last Saturday. It is now your opportunity to include your favorite musician and sideman in the pool of nominees. Voice Your Choice!

Who would you consider a master musician who has influenced culture as well as other musicians? Review these model projects.

When Is Anyone Considered a Grown Up?

When does someone in our modern society know when he, or she, has grown up?  What are the indicators?

In some societies formal ceremonies establish a rite of passage.  For a Jewish boy that would be a bar-mitzvah comprised of intense Scripture study and the performance of spiritual duties; for a Native-American, Apache girl, the coming-of-age ceremony would include a four-day exclusion from the tribe within a separate teepee, where she would dance each day.  She would then only come out on the fourth day with her spiritual leader’s blessing.

While our own culture may lack a formal coming-of-age rite of passage, what large or small event would you consider a rite of passage as you have seen in others’ lives or in your own?  Discussed what happened and how it changed the one you observed or you?

NOTE: Remember you should only use your first name and no more than your last initial in signing a response.

A School Vision

  • List at least three things that are “right” with your school.
  • List at least three things that are “wrong” with your school.
  • How can the wrongs be improved? Be a visionary!  Think outside the box.
